4-H Youth Fair

2012 Fair DATES: July 25 - July 28

For a week in July each year, 4-H youth in Tompkins County have an opportunity to share and showcase the projects they've been working on, at an entirely youth-run event, the 4-H Youth Fair.  The public is invited to come and see what youth in this program are doing.  Highlights of Fair Week include: livestock shows, plant science projects, entomology displays, chili cookoff, dog obedience and agility demonstrations, public presentations, a chicken bar-b-que, and more!

Benefits to Youth

The purpose of the Tompkins County 4-H Acres Youth Fair is to enrich the learning experience of 4-H members.  Through the 4-H Youth Fair activities, 4-H members learn the importance of evaluation based upon pre-described standards; to communicate with an adult through conference judging; to learn how to ask questions and to obtain knowledge; to develop a sense of teamwork and cooperation; to learn that life is constantly changing; to learn to be a humble winner, and to develop positive sportsmanship skills; to develop one's self to the fullest potential; to use knowledge for the betterment of one's community, home, family and self; to volunteer one's time and skills to accomplish a common good; to build leadership skills by working with staff and volunteers; and to feel good about one's self and personal accomplishments.

The 4-H Youth Fair serves as a "learning laboratory" for youth.   The learning experience of the 4-H Fair goes far beyond the winning of a white, red, blue or purple ribbon.   It provides a backdrop for youth to learn important life skills.  Good luck, and enjoy the journey!
