4-H Camps
4-H in Tompkins County and New York State offer a variety of opportunities for young people to be active and engaged during the summer, and at other times during the year when school is not in session. Look through the following offerings, and call Tompkins County 4-H with any questions or to enroll!
Day Camps
Tompkins County 4-H offers the following day camp opportunities and summer programs. For more information, follow the links below:
- Environmental Exploration Days (August 20-24, 2012) is a five day program for youth, ages 12-14, to experience the area's unique natural beauty and get to know how they take part in its protection. Each day is spent at a different local attraction, taking part in hands-on ecology activities, and outdoor recreation.
- Groton Rural Youth Services (RYS) Summer Camp (July 5-August 12, 2011) is for youth aged 5-to-12, and includes swimming, crafts, group activities and more! Offered from 9:00am-4:00pm daily (with before and after care available) at the Groton Middle School by RYS staff. For information, contact Monica Dykeman at (607) 272-4833 ext 230 or mmd1027@aol.com.
- Primitive Pursuits Camp (various dates) is an all-outdoors nature awareness journey that offers wilderness survival skills, nature mentoring and peer-based community building. It is a unique opportunity for youth to immerse themselves in the natural world for days at at time. 2011 includes expanded camp offerings to include a broader age range, new locations and advanced level camps with overnights!
- 4-H Urban Outreach Summer Programs are offered for school-year Urban Outreach participants of the West Village, Belle Sherman, Lindermann Creek and Overlook program sites. Programs are held in the youth's own neighborhood, or at 4-H Acres. Include skill-building opportunities, field trips, crafts, and more. Residential Camps
- Hidden Valley 4-H Camp is located at the south entrance to Watkins Glen State Park with 50 acres in the Watkins Glen Gorge. Programs include archery, canoeing, swimming, woodworking, hiking, science fun, drama, dance and counselor-in-training program. A family camp and a special session for younger campers are offered at the start of the camp season. ACA accredited.
