Policies and Procedures

For Primitive Pursuits Enrollment

This page applies to enrollment directly through Primitive Pursuits. We do contract programs with other organizations and agencies, in which case enrollment and registration procedures as well as other policies may vary.

Is this the right camp for you?
Primitive Pursuits is dedicated to making meaningful and lasting relationships with wild nature available to everyone. We believe that each child deserves not only physical access to the natural world but the chance to be inspired by teachers who have made this their way of life. If you have any questions or concerns about whether Primitive Pursuits is appropriate for your family please contact us. We would enjoy the opportunity to speak with you!

Enrollment Procedure:
Enrollment for each program is contingent upon four things: Completed Registration Form, Supporting Documents*, Payment in full, and Confirmation. We will confirm your placement for each program after receiving your payment and registration, if there is space available. Without confirmation, your child is not enrolled.
*Supporting Documents include: Immunization Records or Letter of Exemption (for Summer Camp only), scholarship applications, DSS forms, parent contracts, or anything else that we might ask you to complete prior to enrollment. Your child may not attend any NYS summer camp without this documentation.

Payment Policy:
We request payment in full when you register, a portion of which is non-refundable. If payment in full is not possible for you, or if you are applying for a scholarship, you will be asked for a non-refundable deposit. This deposit will not be processed until we have determined there is space in the program and any applicable scholarship applications are approved. The non-refundable deposits for each program are specified on the corresponding registration form.
For 2012 Summer Camps - A non-refundable deposit of $75 per week will hold your space. Full payment is due three weeks before the start date of each program week: if not received you may lose your space to another family on the wait list. Please contact us with payment questions or to request a scholarship application.

Late Pick-up Policy:
Our staff do not come cheap! If your child remains in our care beyond the appointed pick up time we reserve the right to charge you for the additional supervision costs incurred. The cost is $20 for each fifteen minute increment or portion thereof. By signing the registration form you agree to this policy and agree to be charged accordingly.

Required Items "To Bring List" Policy:
For the health of each camper and to facilitate high quality programming, we provide a list of required items that your children must bring to each day of each program. If your child does not arrive equipped with all of the outlined items your child may be sent home for the day without a refund. This list will vary from program to program and will accompany all confirmations.

Confirmations:
All program confirmations will be sent to the primary parent/gaurdian email address unless otherwise specified by you on your registration form. Without confirmation, your child is not enrolled. Please contact us before the start date of your program if you have not received an expected confirmation.

Cancellation Policy:
We refund all payments for enrollments cancelled by us, for any reason.
Typically, we do not cancel programs due to inclement weather; however, we reserve the right to do so when the Ithaca City School District has cancelled classes or if the roads are closed due to hazardous conditions. Program fees for individual programs that are canceled due to inclement weather will not be refunded.
If you are cancelling an enrollment  for any reason our refund policy is as follows:
1.     22 or more days prior to the program starting date; you are entitled to a full refund, minus the deposit.
2.     Between 8 - 21 days prior to the program starting date; Primitive Pursuits will retain half the program tuition.
3.     Fewer than 8 days prior to the program starting date and once the program has begun; there will be no refunds.

Snow Day Policy:
While we encourage people to go out in all kinds of adverse conditions, we don't encourage people to drive in those conditions. Our program’s snow-day cancellation policy is that if the Ithaca City School District cancels school due to snow or hazardous weather, all of our programs will also be canceled. If the program is on a school-break day or holiday, the program will be canceled if the Tompkins County sheriff declares that the roads are closed due to hazardous conditions. As always, we encourage people to travel only when they feel it is safe.  You can check here for current school and road closings.
