4-H Kritter Kamp

Youth aged 9 to 13 who have an interest in but little experience with animals are invited to register for the annual "4-H Kritter Kamp", hosted by the Tompkins County 4-H program on Friday and Saturday, May 18-19 at 4-H Acres, 418 Lower Creek Road in Ithaca.

On Friday evening, "Kritter Kamp" participants will camp indoors at 4-H Acres' Kiwanis Hall.  From then until Saturday evening, they learn about animal behavior, grooming, anatomy, health, nutrition and dietary needs, proper handling and how to present an animal for show. Participants partner with an experienced 4-H member to learn these new skills, and they practice with their choice of animal (sheep, dairy cow, goat, or rabbit) provided by 4-H. "Kritter Kamp" concludes with an animal show and pizza party on Saturday evening.

The cost to attend "Kritter Kamp" is $50, which includes: meals and snacks, a "Kritter Kamp" t-shirt and water bottle, handouts, a resource binder, and access to all the necessary grooming tools, halters, equipment and animals. Partial scholarships are available.

To register, please contact Brenda Carpenter at (607) 272-2292 or btc6@cornell.edu for an application form, which must be completed and returned with the $50 fee by April 27 to ensure a space.  Campers who register will receive a list of personal items they need to bring, and a schedule of activities. Parents are encouraged to attend, and friends and family will want to be present on Saturday evening to watch the show.

Download a registration brochure - please register by April 27th.
