Morning Session: NEFE® High School Financial Planning Program® Overview & Training
The morning session will offer you a comprehensive overview of the National Endowment for Financial Education® (NEFE®) High School Financial Planning Program® (HSFPP). You will receive instruction on how to order materials, as well as in-depth guidance on how to effectively utilize the materials with your students.

1:15 - 4:00 pm

Afternoon Session: 4 sessions on Hot Financial Education Topics
The afternoon session will feature four current financial topics, providing you with valuable, real-world information to increase your knowledge and engage your students.

2:00 – 2:30 pm  • Foolproof: How the New Credit Card Act is Everything but a Safety Net!
2:45 – 3:30 pm  •  Lessons Learned from Debtors in the Courtroom

About the NEFE HSFPP

The NEFE HSFPP is a free, non-commercial and flexible curriculum that has been proven in independent studies to change students’ knowledge, actions and self-confidence about managing their money. You can implement the NEFE HSFPP in a wide variety of settings, from the traditional classroom to community youth programs. You can also use it for a stand-alone course or a 10-week life skills course, or integrate it with your existing curricula.
The NEFE HSFPP focuses on competency-based learning, providing students with the tools they need to apply the following skills in their own lives:
• creating a personal financial plan;
• creating a personal budget;
• proposing a personal saving and investing plan;
• selecting strategies to use in handling credit and managing debt;
• demonstrating how to use
• creating a personal insurance
• examining the impact of career on their financial plan.

Who Should Attend?

The Financial Education Summer Training is appropriate for teachers (e.g., business, social studies, economics, family/consumer sciences, math and special education), youth practitioners from community-based non-profit organizations and state agencies, credit union staff members or volunteers, and any other individuals providing financial education to high school or middle school students. NYS teachers who complete the Financial Education Summer Training will receive a certificate of completion for four or eight hours of continuing education
credits, depending on whether they attend one or both sessions.

The Financial Education Summer Training is provided free of charge, however donations to support the work of the Foundation may be made online at www.nycuf.org. Seating at each location is limited. Registration must be received 10 business days prior to the date of the session.  See LOCATIONS.
