Parent Partner Program

This workshop consists of two 3-hour sessions that focus on family education and support for parents, family and loved ones of those with eating disorders.  Local presenters from the fields of mental health, medicine and nutrition help participants understand the illness and provide positive support.  Presenters are: Cris Haltom, PhD (Mental Health), Sue Travis, PhD, RD (Nutrition) and Jessica Casey, DO (Medical).

Participants will learn:
  • What eating disorders are, and what they are not;
  • Physical and medical aspects of eating disorders;
  • Stages of eating disorder treatment and recovery;
  • Nutrition, optimal-versus-dysfunctional eating, and health restoration;
  • How to identify when and how to help, and how to be a positive role model;
  • How to look at disordered eating from the perspective of another person;
  • How to recognize cultural and media messages about body image.
