As temperatures drop and fuel prices rise, many people are considering heating their homes with wood. Heating with wood can reduce home heating costs while helping the local economy and it offers many environmental benefits over oil and other fossil fuels. The keys to using wood sustainably are proper harvesting, and employing "best burn" practices that keep emissions at a minimum and your stove burning as efficiently as possible.
Whether you're considering switching to wood heat, or already heat with pellets or firewood, this workshop will provide information you can use, including how to buy and dry firewood, best burn practices, proper maintenance of wood stoves, and an overview of the latest high-efficiency technology now available. $5/person. Participants receive a 16-pg. booklet on heating with wood, and will have a chance to win a wood stove thermometer to be given away that evening. So that we may prepare enough handouts, please preregister by calling (607) 272-2292.
