Open Days Garden Tour - Woodland Wonders

Nestled into a natural curve of the woods edge, the garden creators positioned their home and gardens to obtain maximum views of Ithaca and its surrounding countryside. The curves were then repeated by establishing a variety of paths throughout the perennial gardens. Elegant mixed borders edge the lawn and gracefully lead the wanderer to a quiet bench, the pond, or perhaps a stroll through the 30 acre woodlot (all paths lead home).

Existing trees stand proud as backdrop to shade gardens dappled in sunlight, adding depth and interest. A pond encourages wildlife to venture near, and birds sing happily as they claim this sanctuary for their own.  After 20 years of playing  in the woods, the hosts are ready to welcome you. A special treat - viewing the gardens from inside 'Stepback Cottage'.

Directions to Woodland Wonders Garden

From Ithaca, go approximately 8 miles south on route 13. Take first Newfield exit on left. Continue on Main Street through village for 2 miles and take a left onto Vankirk Rd (just past Baptist Church on right). #192 is approximately one mile on the right. The driveway is .4 miles long with plenty of parking near the house.

From Elmira, go approximately 20 miles north on route 13. Take first Newfield exit, right onto Trumbulls Corners Rd. Immediately turn right onto Main Street, then left onto Vankirk Rd.
