HOW YOU CAN HELP YOUTH FLY FISHING EDUCATION

WHO?

The US is becoming more urban and its residents more diverse. Young people are more detached from the natural world and are finding few opportunities to interact with it in a constructive and wholesome way.

We have found the sport of fly fishing to be the ideal venue in which kids can participate in activities that involve direct contact with nature, helping them develop a true stake in the future of their local environment.

"It kept me out of a lot of trouble that I could have gotten into and led me in the direction I'm going- fisheries and wildlife biology." Diallo House, junior in college and FAP participant for 8 years.

WHERE?

It is not enough simply to introduce youngsters to the sport. Quality, long- term support must be available. For ten years the Fly Fisher Apprentice Program has helped provide such a system. The innovative Community Fly Fisher has emerged from FAP.

The CFF helps to strengthen anti-drug and pro-youth initiatives by offering local neighborhood and family groups a safe, productive, alternative to less desirable activities.

The CFF program also includes the development of a retail fly fishing shop designed and staffed by young anglers. It will serve as a hub and source of support for regional youth fly fishing and environmental education activities, and be offered as a replicable model for programs across the US.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Our name says it all! The Community Fly Fisher is there to help the community. It also, however, needs the financial support of community members to survive.

A start-up grant from HUD and inventory support from the fly fishing industry has given the CFF retail operation a solid base.

Your contribution will provide materials and expertise for our youth development programming. It will help us expand our services to include the kids who need this important opportunity the most!

You can help insure the future of the CFF by making a three year pledge of support!
