NLI Cultural Explosion
The Spring 2009 NLI group created the NLI Cultural Explosion for their community action project.
The first NLI Cultural Explosion was held at the Congo Square Market at the Southside Community Center on August 14, 2009. The Ithaca Times wrote about the event: "This past Friday was a Cultural Explosion, featuring several different performances that showcased the ethnic diversity of our area. There was a Colombian dance duo, a solo harpist, and a mini play in Spanish ... among others. Many dozens filtered in and out throughout the evening to witness the eclectic talents of their peers, and enjoyed hearty fare in the form of European delicacies and Cuban-style chicken, beans and rice. The regular African-themed market was vibrant as well, with fresh produce and locally-made apparel and crafts. it was quite the event -- a celebration of culture and a way to start off the weekend with a rich sense of community."
