NLI Group Sessions

NLI currently offers two group sessions per year and they generally start in February and September. Each group has 15-20 natural leaders from throughout Tompkins County. Group members participate in 8 sessions over 5 months and have the opportunity to get to know other community leaders from diverse backgrounds and also work on a small action projects with other NLI members.

What do NLI participants learn?

NLI sessions are designed around participants’ needs and interests. These include:

  • Building on strengths (your own, and the community’s)
  • Talking about: Who is a “leader”? What are “leadership skills”?
  • Finding and using community resources, building relationships with diverse groups of people, and developing effective allies for yourself, your group, and your issue
  • “Getting things done” – creating and leading a successful project, leading and participating effectively in groups & meetings, understanding group dynamics, creative problem-solving, engaging others, working collectively.
  • Getting people to listen – communication skills, public speaking skills
  • Building support; taking care of yourself; dealing with frustration, anger, and hopelessness; taking pride and celebrating success

What does NLI Cost?

There is no fee to participate in an NLI group! Program costs are covered by local grants and donations.
