NLI Kite Celebration & BBQ
NLI participant Ana Ortiz and her daugher, Ana Chelez, decided to share a Puerto Rican kite flying festival by holding a Kite Celebration and Community BBQ. Originally scheduled on Mother's Day to honor mothers, stormy weather postponed the event to June 12. Ana teamed up with other NLI participants and grads to organize the event. Southside, GIAC, the Ithaca Youth Bureau, Overstanding Productions and others co-sponsored. Over 50 people attended, and had a wonderful time flying kites, strawberry picking in the Ithaca Children's Garden, breaking pinatas, eating, and making new friends. In spite of limited winds, some kites did soar.
