Leveraging the Power of Diverse Teams

Led by Margo Hittleman, NLI Coordinator

Often, people put together diverse teams, but then work in ways that fail to reap the benefits of that diversity. This highly interactive workshop offers both a framework and practical tools for leveraging the power of diverse teams, optimizing innovation, and strengthening organizational decision-making. It invites participants to become intentional and strategic about this work. It is designed both for those who lead diverse teams and those who want to build their capacity to do so in the future. The content is applicable both in organizational and community contexts.

In this highly interactive workshop, you will:

  • Explore the power of diversity for creativity and innovation
  • Gain tools to promote an inclusive group process that invites the sharing of diverse and divergent perspectives, experiences and ideas
  • Cultivate the art of “asking” vs. “telling”
  • Learn to invite innovation-generating, constructive “task or content conflict” while reducing the innovation-destroying traps of “relationship conflict,” false harmony, polarization, and the pull toward conformity
  • Shift your focus from “good intentions” to “intended results”

Leadership in Our Midst: Creating Leader-ful Organizations

Led by Margo Hittleman, NLI Coordinator

In the search for diverse leadership, most organizations ignore one of their greatest assets: the large, untapped pool of informal leadership that already exists all around them. This highly interactive workshop offers both a “developmental leadership” framework and practical tools for shifting from trying to “motivate” others to intentionally recognizing and cultivating this existing leadership capacity.

Come learn how to strategically grow a diverse, leader-full organization while simultaneously furthering your organization’s mission, goals and work. This workshop is designed both for those who already supervise others and those who want to build their capacity to do so

In this highly interactive workshop, you will:

  • Explore a “developmental leadership” framework and how it differs from other ways of thinking about leadership.
  • Identify the diverse, untapped pools of informal leaders – and potential leaders – that already exist in and around your organization and learn how to cultivate and tap this productive resource.
  • Find ways to engage in the productive activity of systematically building and strengthening diverse leadership for your team and organization by integrating it into the work you already do.
  • Recognize the key attributes & skills needed to succeed in this work, assess your strengths and identify the attributes & skills you want to develop further.
  • Identify the numerous personal and organizational resources you already have and learn how to use them to further your diversity & inclusion goals
  • Identify specific, immediately implementable ways to apply these principles and skills in the work you're already doing.
