Refresher Courses

This classroom course is offered by the AARP for a fee of $20.00 for current AARP members, or $25.00 for non-members. This is the nation's oldest refresher course for all drivers, with a focus on older adults. There are no tests and the entire course is classroom based. Way2Go offers these workshops in partnership with the AARP quarterly.

Learning to Drive

NYS DMV Online Study Manuals
The New York State DMV offers an online study manual that can help new drivers prepare for the permit and road tests, and veteran drivers brush up on rules of the road. They also offer Tips on Passing Your Road Test and you may also refer to the DMV Online Study Manual.

Driving and Points Reduction Classes

Classroom or online defensive driving courses guarantee a 10% reduction in your auto insurance rates for three years and can reduce points on your license by up to four points.

Big Red Bell Driving School

Ithaca's only locally owned and operated driving school, with special attention given to foreign students, young drivers, senior citizens, road test preparation, highway driving, nervous drivers, and defensive driving. Located at 101 North Cayuga Street, Ithaca, 607-273-5880.

Baxter's Traffic Safety Center
Offers the required 5-hour pre-licensing course in Cortland, private driving lessons, pre-road test evaluation, and defensive driving techniques. Offers a points- and rate-reduction defensive driving course at the Johnson City location. Telephone 607-797-7776.
