Working Adults Transportation Assistance Program
How can it help me get to work?
Working Adults Transportation Assistance, through the Mobility Program, Tompkins County Department of Social Services: If you work or are looking for work, you can get 1 month of discounted gas cards, or 2 months of bus passes at a 50% discount. If you are looking for work, you can get 3 one-day bus passes for a 2 week period.
Transportation support is available in the form of gas cards up to limit of $50.00 AND the recipient will need to pay a cash co-payment of up to 50%. Example: person whose household's income is eligible (which can be demonstrated with receipt of food stamps - we can look it up for you) chooses to receive a gas card and has mileage need for $50.00 in gas cards, would make a co-payment of $25.00 in order to receive the $50.00 gas card.
An applicant does not need to be a parent. Applicants simply have to be a working adult (or looking for work) who lives in Tompkins County; be a United States citizen or has immigration status; and have an eligible household income. See chart below:

Transportation support is provided in above terms for a period of 1 month, or up to 2 months bus passes if received at a 50% discount.
Can I get help?
For you to qualify, ALL of the following must be true:
- I am a working or job-seeking adult.
- AND I live in Tompkins County
- AND I am a United States citizen OR I have an eligible immigration status
- AND my household income is eligible
How do I get help with Transportation?
- Call Cynthia Kloppel at 607-274-5022; she is the Mobility Program Specialist at DSS.
- Cynthia will speak with you to determine your eligibility and then meet with you.
- You will meet with Cynthia to receive your work transportation bus passes or gas card. This meeting is also to get other transportation ideas to keep costs as low as possible and build in transportation variety to increase dependability of your transportation.
