Educational Materials
The following are existing resources currently used in energy education programs in Tompkins County.
- Energy Program Guide Cards. Educational guide presenting NYSERDA and other energy programs for different categories of residents. Explains what programs people qualify for, their benefits, and what it means financially. Different cards for renters, owners, and landlords, and residents of three income tiers. Cards are currently being used by Cornell Cooperative Extension, Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County, and 2-1-1 Information and Referral Services.
- Energy Savings CD and website. Website and CD includes instructions and tips for Low Cost Energy Savers, Quick and Easy energy savers(limited time and budget), Big Energy Savers, and For Apartment Dwellers and Tenants. The website includes an interactive house to learn more about saving energy, and each section includes video clips and documents that accompany each tip that show exactly how -- with clear step-by-step instructions -- to do each one of these tips.
- Path to Energy Efficiency. Visual educational guide to explain energy efficiency as a multi-step process. Starts with low- and no-cost steps, and continues through BPI-certified audits and ends with renewable energy.
- Home Energy Yardstick benchmarking. Home energy benchmarking campaign to collect home utility bill information for community-wide homeowner education baseline study. Using ENERGY STAR Home Energy Yardstick, integrated into the Green Energy Compass tool developed by Performance Systems Development, a BPI-certified contractor and software developer in Ithaca, NY.
- Video clips. Video clips of leaders in Tompkins County talking about the importance and benefits of energy efficiency retrofits to their homes and community. The videos are tailored to different ages, genders, rural or urban, occupation, and other demographics.
