What's Happening Locally?
- 11/2010- Energy leaders meet to brainstorm ideas for the upcoming county-wide energy efficiency marketing campaign. E-mail df66@cornell.edu to learn more.
- 11/2010– Cooperative Extension is offering free Save Energy, Save Dollars workshops and Ask the Expert Contractor Panels. The workshops cover ways to reduce your home energy use. They are offered regularly at the Education Center in Ithaca and other locations.
- 10/2010- Volunteers distributed a compact fluorescent light bulb and energy saving bag to 5,000 County residents as part of Lighten Up Tompkins
- 9/2010- Cooperative Extension begins contract with Dryden, Lansing, Ulysses, Newfield, Enfield, and Danby to perform energy efficiency education.
- 10/2009– Tompkins County Action Energy Services Department rolled out the "Energy Savings-Saving Energy" program to inform homeowners, landlords and tenants about home energy-efficiency strategies and financing programs. Much of the outreach was done through teens involved in the summer JobsBuild program.
- 8/2009– Students in the Dryden High School Sustainability Club were trained, through the Green Energy Compass Home program, to assist Dryden residents with energy audits.
- 4/2008– The Cornell Community Partnership Board and CCE organized roughly 90 volunteers to distribute educational materials on energy efficiency and reusable cloth bags filled with efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs to all of Caroline's 1,400 households.
What's Happening Nationally?
- 4.10– The City of Portland was awarded $20 million from the US Department of Energy to expand on its program, Clean Energy Works. This is a PACE program that includes a comprehensive plan to make sure new jobs created by the program are high quality, career-track jobs that offer family-supporting wages and benefits, and that they go to local residents from diverse backgrounds. - 1.10– The California Energy Efficiency Education Program is a fairly new energy education initiative in San Diego, CA. All K-12 schools within San Diego County feature a comprehensive home energy efficiency education program.
