Herbicide Applicator 2011-Allied Biological
Allied Biological was chosen as the herbicide applicator in the fall of 2011 after Tompkins County Soil and Water Conservation reviewed proposals from two companies. The cost was very similar, but Allied was a known applicator in the area. They have done work on other water bodies in central NY giving them knowledge of similar water bodies. Add confidence in the applicators ability came from the fact that they were a known entity to many regulatory and other experts with whom the Cayuga Inlet Taskforce was working. Although the main office for Allied is in New Jersey, they also have an office in Maryland, NY providing a closer office to service our needs. The other company was headquartered in Massachusetts.
The winter 2012 newsletter of Allied Biolgical includes an article on hydrilla in Cayuga Lake and an overview of why hydrilla is a threat. Note a correction: the environmental emergency was declared by the City of Ithaca. This was incorrectly attributed to the Town of Ithaca on page 2.
