"Supporting Literacy in Tompkins County"
Join Sharon Alvord from Tompkins Learning Partners for a discussion that will include: 

  • How to tap into Youth Service to reach adults
  • How adult literacy also helps improve child literacy
  • Services provided by Tompkins Learning Partners, including:
  • GED prep
  • English as a Second Language
  • Literacy and math skills

7/21: "Enough Abuse: Strategies for your Family & Community."
This training, provided by representatives from the Advocacy Center's Enough Abuse Campaign, takes a little longer than our usual time, so please mark your calendar to allow for the extra half-hour.   The Enough Abuse Campaign teaches adults how to prevent people from victimizing children today and how to prevent children from developing abusive behaviors in the future.  You will learn:

  • to recognize signs in adults that indicate they may pose a risk to children,
  • age appropriate sexual behaviors along with behaviors that could indicate that a child is being abused,
  • tools to talk to kids about sexuality and safety,
  • as well as what to do if a child discloses abuse.
