4-H Thread Café

  • Tuesday, November 19, 2019, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

The 4-H Thread Café Club has room for a few new members aged 10-to-13 who want to learn how to knit or crochet or improve their needlework skills. The club is organized and skills are taught by Katarina Goodge, an MS Fiber Science Student with the Frey Research Group at Cornell University.

In this project-based program, students will learn the basics of both knitting and crocheting, including how to cast on, bind off, basic stitches of knitting and purling, single and double crochet, increase and decreasing stitches, following pattern directions and characteristics of different yarns. The goal is for each student to complete two projects: one in knitting, another in crochet. Parents of participants sign up to provide snacks, and are welcome to stay for meetings and help members with their projects.

The 4-H Thread Café meets on alternating Tuesdays (except for holidays) from 6:30-7:30pm starting November 19th. Students are expected to practice skills between meetings. The cost of the program is $15 for 4-H County Membership fee. Participants will need to obtain their own knitting needles, all other yarn and supplies will be provided. Space is limited, please contact Katarina at keg222@cornell.edu to register for the program and with any questions.

Volunteers Wanted: We are looking for parents/adults with experience to volunteer to help teach the basic knitting or crocheting skills.

Directions: Park in the lot across the road or park in the Forest Home parking garage then walk up the stairs on the right side of the building and watch for someone to direct you to the meeting location. The cost of the program is $15 and includes all supplies and materials needed and
snacks.
