Learn how to get started with a small urban flock!

Raise a Home Poultry Flock

  • Wednesday, February 6, 2019, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Raising chickens for eggs or meat can be fairly simple to do. A small flock of 4 birds can easily provide eggs for a family of 4. Learn about keeping chickens in the backyard – breeds, housing, feeding and sanitation will all be discussed at this class on Home Poultry Production on Wednesday  Feb 6, from 6:30 to 8 PM at the Cooperative Extension office on 615 Willow Ave in Ithaca.

For residents in the City of Ithaca and in the Village of Trumansburg, a class is required in order to get a permit to keep a backyard flock. People who attend the class will receive a certificate to submit with their chicken-keeping applications to city or town clerks.

Registration is required so we have contact information in case of weather cancellation. To register, contact Debbie Teeter at dlt22@cornell.edu or  272-2292, or register online on the link below.  There is a $5 fee per person or $8 per family to attend the class which can be paid on line or at the door.

NOTE: This class is required for City of Ithaca residents who want to keep up to 4 chickens on city lots of at least 3000 SF.
