Support URO's important work at this night of Spoken Word, Song, Music + Dance

Bars of In Justice

  • Friday, April 19, 2019, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The Ultimate Reentry Opportunity Initiative (URO) invites the community to this very special evening at Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) which will raise much needed funds to support URO's ongoing work with returning citizens. In addition to the Spoken Word, Song, Music + Dance, there will be raffles of donated items, t.b.a.

Bars of In | Justice in not just a fundraiser for the Ultimate Reentry Opportunity Initiative, its also an opportunity to engage the community on issues impacting our community and humanity through art.  We also will recognize Dr. James Tuner, activist and former member of the Africana Center at Cornell University, for his contributions to justice around the world.

The Bars of In | Justice event will highlight some of Ithaca’s favorite artists like Kenneth & Elbonee Singtrice McLauren, Ave Mack of the Empire Kings, Jhakeem Haltom from Thousands of One, Savanah and Qa’ron of New Roots High School, Marquan Jones of Cornell University, T-Wiz of Collective Purpose, and Rock Jones. We will have Jamaican Jerk Chicken, plantains, beans and rice.

At the conclusion of the show we will take a song from Meek Mill, a staunch advocate for criminal justice reform and dissect the lyrics and discuss how these lyrics are not just songs to listen to but songs to connect us all to the pain and suffering of people, who due to their circumstances, don’t always have the means to experience justice.
