Sustainable Fingerlakes, Get Your Greenback, Heat Smart Tompkins, and Cooperative Extension's Climate and Energy Outreach Team and other local organizations will share information on local energy organizing, DIY actions to cut down your energy use, and financial incentives currently available for larger impact upgrades.
One Quarter of the Green House Gas emissions of Tompkins County residents comes from home energy use. Another third of local emissions comes from driving cars and other forms of motorized transportation.* There are many things everyone can do to limit burning of fossil fuels and address the pressing issue of climate change. Governments around the country are establishing important emissions reductions goals including the City of Ithaca's Green New Deal and Tompkins County's Energy Road map.
Lansing currently has a powerful opportunity to dramatically cut back on fossil fuel use as a moratorium on new Natural Gas developments has been implemented by NYSEG. As more and more Lansing residents are taking stock of their fossil fuel use, the potential grows to demonstrate the many effective alternatives to using Natural Gas to power our lives.
With so many new opportunities emerging, this event is intended to inspire people to get engaged and offer an assortment of options so that everyone leaves with something tangible they can do to make a difference.
