Community Food Growing Series: Food Gardening Panel Discussion

Don’t miss this panel discussion by several experienced food gardeners!  Master Gardeners and others with years of food growing experience will highlight some advanced ways to maximize your crop and extend the growing season.  This workshop will assume that attendees have had some growing experience.  For a more basic discussion of how to get started, go to the Feb. 25 class described above. Fee: $5/class or $20/series. 4-H Quilting Workshop
Saturday, March 13, 10:00 am-4:00 pm
Youth eight years and older and adults are invited to this FREE workshop in which participants will complete either a 9-square or “Crazy Quilt” pillow top. All participants should have BASIC sewing skills and knowledge prior to registering for the class. Bring your own lunch, 1 yard of neutral color cotton fabric for the quilt base and pillow back, small pieces of cotton fabric for the pillow cover (at least 6”) and a 14” pillow form.  Additional fabric and thread will be provided. Participants will also explore how messages and ideas can be expressed through fabric and fiber art.  Reference books on “Freedom Quilts” will be available for review, as well as examples of other quilts and quilt projects.  This workshop is held in memory of long-time 4-H volunteer Elma Canfield, who is remembered by many as an incredible sewing teacher and 4-H volunteer.  Please register for this workshop with Sherron Brown, 272-2292, or scb42@cornell.edu.  This workshop is limited to 16 participants.

Land Owner Coalitions: Emerging Opportunities for Grassroots Organizing Around Natural Gas Leasing

Advanced Fire Intensive for Adults

2010 Green Building Series: Reducing Construction Waste

Diane Cohen, Executive Director of the Finger Lakes ReUse Center, and Phillip Carey, FLRC’s Deconstruction Coordinator, will give you all the tools you need to keep construction waste out of the landfill. They’ll cover strategies and local resources for reducing, reusing and recycling construction materials and confront the issues of on-site waste management. They will also discuss the basics of deconstruction and options in the community for salvaging usable building materials. 6th Annual Sister-Friends Luncheon

2010 Beautification Brigade Volunteer Training

2010 Green Building Series: Designing for Maximum Energy Efficiency

The line of attack for reducing energy consumption includes lifestyle, materials and design choices. While weatherization and conserving energy are critical, there are some approaches that take a more radical look at reducing a home’s energy needs. Peter Larson, AIA, LEEP AP, an architect with Ashley McGraw, will lead a panel discussion on what’s possible with the latest design concepts, including Passiv Haus, Net Zero Energy, and Climate Responsive Energy Design. Joining Larson will be Craig Modisher, a Passiv Haus certified consultant and builder with Dovetail Builders, and ej George, certified sustainable building advisor and a NYSERDA Energy Educator.
