"Why Do You Parent the Way You Do?"

Many factors influence our children and how we parent. Why do we do what we do? Why do we make the decisions we make? Facilitators Travis Winter and Lisa Pate lead workshop discussion topics including: Parenting styles and discipline, child development, cultural influences, and environmental issues

Save Energy, Save Dollars
Tuesday, February 9, 6:30-8:30 pm
Learn about low-cost and no-cost ways to reduce your home energy usage and programs that can help you afford energy-efficiency improvements to your home. Each participating household will receive a free kit of energy-saving items worth $15. This workshop is free, but pre-registration is required. Primitive Pursuits Winter Camp 2010
Saturday-Wednesday, February 13-17, 9:00am ­ 3:00pm*
4-H Acres, 418 Lower Creek Road, Ithaca
Youth ages 6-14 are invited to put on snow pants and get outside this February during winter break. Run, Play, Laugh and practice the skills of shelter, water, fire and food. Each day before you head home to collapse on your couch you will build fires, make wild tea, track animals, cook over a bed of coals and much more! Cost: Choose from three options: #1) Saturday and Sunday $95; #2) Monday to Wednesday $145; #3) Saturday to Wednesday Save! $195-$250 (self-determined sliding scale) *Staff will be on site from 8:30am ­ 3:30pm. 4-H Cabin Fever Day
Tuesday, February 16, 9:00 am -12:30 pm
Youth 5 and up are invited to this morning of FREE half-hour workshops on making pots, propagating plants, photography, making a natural heating bag, nature prints, making a corsage, and pizza making, followed by a pizza lunch at noon. Making Ends Meet

This free workshop will cover how to set financial goals, track spending, get the most for your money and ways to reduce energy bills. Exploring Credit & Debt Management Issues

Community Food Growing Series: Getting Started with Vegetable Gardening

Learn where to site your garden, how to prepare the soil, how to start seeds, how to plant, when to mulch, which easy veggies to try first, and so on.   Pat Curran, Horticulture Educator, will also discuss favorite varieties, container gardening, and harvesting tips.  Pre-registration recommended.  Fee: $5/class or $20 for the series. Spring in the Netherlands:  A Festival of Flowers
Saturday, February 27

Holland is gorgeous in April!  This presentation will take you on a pictorial journey to the world-famous Keukenhof Gardens, and an overview of field production of flower bulbs.  Join Chris Cerveny of Cornell’s Horticulture Department, who traveled to the festival of flowers in the Netherlands in April 2008.  Suggested donation of $3 helps support the Horticulture Program.
