Community Beautification
The Tompkins County Community Beautification Program was established in 2002 with funds from the Hotel Room Tax, an additional 5% paid by guests at local hotels, motels and bed-and-breakfasts to support tourism initiatives. The goal of the program is to improve the landscaping and appearance of places where tourists might go. In the City of Ithaca, this is accomplished through the efforts of a group of volunteers called the Beautification Brigade. If you are interested in volunteering with the Beautification Brigade, please contact us.
The Community Beautification Program also distributes money to the rural Towns in Tompkins County for them to do their own beautification programs. The funds are disbursed through participating municipalities who sign a contract with the Community Beautification Program, and must be matched with money, goods, or services by the people working on the project. If you live in a rural municipality in Tompkins County and want to learn more about these beautification funds, please contact us.
The annual Open Days Garden Tour in Tompkins County also is coordinated by the Community Beautification Program in partnership with the national Garden Conservancy.
