Free "Compost With Confidence" Classes

When: Last Saturday of the month, June through October, 12 noon - 1 pm (10-11 am starting in Sept. 2010!)

Location: Ithaca Community Gardens, Rt. 13 and Carpenter Circle near the Ithaca Farmers' Market.

The Compost Education Program offers a series of free public classes each year on the last Saturday of the month from June through October, 12:00 noon-1:00 pm at the Compost Demonstration Site, Ithaca Community Gardens (near the Ithaca Farmers' Market).  At these sessions, Master Composter volunteers provide information and give hands-on demonstrations to help you set up and manage a composting system in any setting. Each class covers the basics of composting to teach you how to manage a successful system with minimal effort. Workshop topics are:

  • June - Getting started
  • July - Troubleshooting
  • August - Is it done? & Compost Uses
  • September - "Stealth" Composting (double-bin, indoor system)
  • October - Winter Composting

Master Composter Training

Offered each March, Applications due in February
Description:
Master Composters are a fun and enthusiastic group of about 30 community volunteers who are committed to promoting responsible composting. Training is free and includes ten weekday evening classes and an internship from February-April. Volunteer work follows. If you are interested in protecting the environment, improving your own and other people's gardens, and having fun with a lively group, then consider joining us!  Learn more about the Master Composters.

Winter Worms Class

Description: In this hands-on workshop, every paying participant will go home with a worm bin and everything they need to know to get started. Children welcome with an accompanying adult. Fee: $10 (sliding scale). Register early - space is limited!  Watch our Upcoming Events or call for date of the next session.
