FAQ

How long are classes and when do they meet?
Cooking Matters classes are offered in a series that meets once a week for six weeks in a row. Each class lasts two hours. Classes usually meet mid-morning (9-11am, 10-12pm, etc.) for lunch or in the evening (4-6pm, 5:30-7:30pm, etc.) for dinner. The exact time depends on the schedules of the people involved and the availability of the kitchen used. Class series are scheduled on a rolling basis throughout the calendar year.

Are there fees/requirements to participate?
No, there is no fee for joining a Cooking Matters class, however you must commit to attend all 6 classes in the series once you have signed up.

Who are our participants?
People who want to learn more about managing their food dollars and about cooking healthy, or who want to learn better kitchen and food safety skills. In other words, anyone is welcome!

How many participants are in a typical class?
Each class enrolls 8-15 participants, depending on the facility and the abilities of the participants. Ideally, we'd like to have at least 8 people in each class series.

What happens during a class session?
During each class, participants will cook delicious, nutritious meals together, under the guidance of a volunteer chef. They will also receive a lesson on nutrition and healthy living from an experienced Nutrition Educator.

Where do the classes take place?
Classes take place in a variety of locations: at Cooperative Extension, schools, churches, low-income housing developments, restaurants and community centers.
