Funding Sources
As a not-for-profit program, Cooking Matters depends on the support of many different funding sources. Much of the funding for our local program comes from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) through the Food Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE) now know as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education or SNAP-Ed. Funds are administered through the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) and programs are evaluated by Cornell University. The federal funding pays for the salary of the Program Manager and the Extension educators, for the food used in classes and for class materials. Private funding is needed for some portions of the program, such as the take-home groceries, childcare and transportation vouchers for participants, as well as volunteer training and appreciation.
