Gardening in Difficult Spaces

Jun 30, 2026, 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Experienced Master Gardeners will address challenges associated with gardening in dry, shady, deer-prone and curbside conditions and present plants likely to be successful (and even flourish!) in these tough conditions. The class will be in-person only and partially outdoors allowing participants to see many of these plants growing in our demonstration gardens.Instructors:Pat Curran is a retired leader of the Tompkins County Master Gardener program, who likes to grow many new and different things. She has years of experience with deer issues and hearing about them from many local gardeners.Teresa Craighead is a a long-time garden guide at Cornell Botanic Gardens, manages the deer-resistnat shade garden, and a home gardener in a deer-prone neighborhood.Michael Lawless is a professional arborist with a background in urban plant health management. His neglectful watering practices over the years have inadvertently revealed many plants that thrive in the garden without supplemental moisture.
