Usually we hold the Compost Fair in the spring as a celebration of the season's arrival. In 2020, due to COVID-19, we decided to postpone the Fair until the fall. Since large gatherings are still not safe, nor allowed in NY State, we decided to hold a "virtual Compost Fair!"
What's that? You may ask.
Continuing our long-standing partnership with the 4-H Duck Race, this year we offered ~20 minutes of fun and educational programming about composting during a virtual Duck Race event, held on Sunday, September 13 from Noon - 1:30pm.
Our compost programming featured four segments of about 5 min each:
The entire event was STREAMED LIVE on CCE-Tompkins' YouTube Channel on Sunday, September 13 from 12:00-1:30pm:
Invitations to attend the online event were sent out through our Facebook event page.
The virtual Compost Fair of 2020 is free and available to view at any time! https://youtu.be/EcuJnYkSM8o?t=1343

(What we usually offer - finger's crossed for 2021!)
Celebrate spring's arrival by stopping by the Compost Fair for a guaranteed good time! The Compost Fair is held in conjunction with the 4-H Duck Race. And this year, for the first time, we are partnering with Streets Alive! as they hold their event nearby. It is our hope that people can move easily between events on road and away from cars. Admission to all events is FREE and open to the public.
At the Compost Fair, there will be information and demonstrations of beginning and advanced compost techniques, continuous tours of our demonstration site, live music, food and activities for kids. Several partner organizations, gardening and sustainability groups will be joining us. All attendees will be eligible to win fabulous compost prizes. Compost bins (Earth Machines, welded wire cylinder and worm compost bins) will be for sale while supplies last. Go home a composter!
