Virtual Compost Fair & 4-H Duck Race

  • Sunday, September 13, 2020, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Usually we hold the Compost Fair in the spring as a celebration of the season's arrival. This year, due to COVID-19, we decided to postpone the Fair until the fall. Since large gatherings are still not safe, nor allowed in NY State, we have now decided to hold a "virtual Compost Fair!"

What's that? You may ask.

Continuing our long-standing partnership with the 4-H Duck Race, this year we are offering ~20 minutes of fun and educational programming about composting during a virtual Duck Race event, held on Sunday, September 13 from Noon - 1:30pm.

Our compost programming will feature four segments of about 5 min each:

  • Rot N Roll, Tompkins County’s best compost cover band performing their #1 hit, “Rot Me Mamma”
  • New Master Composter (MC) Daniel Baruch teaching about outdoor composting basics at the CCETC Demo site
  • New MC Romina Capelli and her 3 awesome children showing off their home worm composting bin
  • Adam Michalides, Compost Educator, telling folks where they can learn more, and giving away 2 fabulous compost prizes

The entire event will be STREAMED LIVE on CCE-Tompkins' YouTube Channel on Sunday, September 13 from 12:00-1:30pm:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQB1tQzDOMmw1kzPkgM-NEw

We don't yet know at exactly what time the virtual Compost Fair programming will run. Please check back on this event page, or our Facebook event page as we get closer to the event.

(What we usually offer - finger's crossed for 2021!)

Celebrate spring's arrival by stopping by the Compost Fair for a guaranteed good time! The Compost Fair is held in conjunction with the 4-H Duck Race. And this year, for the first time, we are partnering with Streets Alive! as they hold their event nearby. It is our hope that people can move easily between events on road and away from cars. Admission to all events is FREE and open to the public.

At the Compost Fair, there will be information and demonstrations of beginning and advanced compost techniques, continuous tours of our demonstration site, live music, food and activities for kids. Several partner organizations, gardening and sustainability groups will be joining us. All attendees will be eligible to win fabulous compost prizes. Compost bins (Earth Machines, welded wire cylinder and worm compost bins) will be for sale while supplies last. Go home a composter!
