We are now accepting applications for the 2021 CCETC Master Gardner Volunteer Training (MGVT) Program. Applicants will be chosen based on a combination of factors, including: basic knowledge of and interest in gardening, good communication skills, enthusiasm for acquiring and sharing horticultural knowledge and skills, ability to build relationships with Tompkins County communities, representation of underserved communities (rural and urban), and interest in supporting the MGV Program goals of food security and environmental stewardship. See the Volunteer Orientation to CCE MGV Standardsfor more information about the MGV Program.
Applications are due by Wednesday, January 6th. Applicants who are chosen based on the factors above will be invited to interview by Wednesday, January 13th, and the final class list will be chosen by Friday, January 22nd. Training will be from February 1st through the end of June, with 11 live, Sunday afternoon sessions from 4-5:30pm to augment the online course through Zoom or outdoor, hands-on learning.
Tuition is $200, plus a $100 deposit, which is returned upon completion of 60 MGV volunteer hours in under 2 years. Alternate payment options and scholarships are available.
***Starting this year, CCE Tompkins County is using an online Moodle course developed by the Cornell Garden Based Learning team. We understand access to a computer and reliable internet can be barriers, so please contact us if this is something you would face challenges with, and we will do our best to find a solution.***
