Paw Paw Orchard Tour

  • Saturday, October 9, 2021, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

NOTE: THIS INFO IS ALL ABOUT THE SATURDAY IN-PERSON TOUR. FOR THE TUESDAY EVENING ZOOM CLASS, PLEASE REGISTER SEPARATELY.

Attendees will be given a tour of the Lansing pawpaw patch and learn about the history and research behind this planting. In-person visitors will be given fruits to taste, and taught on how to grow pawpaws from seed to fruiting tree. We are also having a zoom class all about paw paws on Tuesday Oct. 5th before this trip. Attendance in that class is not required as a prerequisite for this trip, but it will make this trip a richer experience. Register here for the Zoom class.

About the Instructor:
Anya Osatuke is the Western New York Small Fruits Extension Specialist working with Harvest New York and the New York State Berry Growers Association. For her Masters degree, Anya researched strawberries with Dr. Marvin Pritts at Cornell University. Anya grew up gardening and foraging and loves to discuss native and invasive edibles in the landscape.

About Parking:

Parking is limited to about 15 cars at the Paw Paw Orchard site but you may park on Sweazy Road and walk to the orchard.  Please carpool if possible!

We are committed to making all the classes in our Horticulture Program financially accessible, so have moved to a pay-what-you-can model. Our classes are valued at $20. If you can afford to pay $20 or more, you are helping make these classes available to folks who cannot afford the full price. All registrants, regardless of payment level, will receive a video recording of the class.
