Pruning Home Fruit Trees: HANDS-ON Workshop

  • Saturday, March 5, 2022, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Sorry, this class is full, we cannot register additional students.

This is a separate class from the Zoom Class offered on Tuesday, March 1st..

Pruning your home fruit trees is key to robust disease resistance as well as vigorous fruit production. Join Agriculture Issue Leader and farmer Graham Savio, and Owner of Red Byrd Orchards Eric Shatt, as they show you the best techniques for pruning pomme fruits (apples, pears) and stone fruits (apricots, plums, cherries, peaches). They will show you the basics of pruning each type of tree as well as general pruning tips and strategies for renovating old overgrown apples, which are common in our region, with an opportunity to do some hands-on practice.

This is a companion class to the Tuesday evening Zoom class, but the Tuesday evening class is NOT a requirement for attending this one.  Register for one or both. Info for the Tuesday class here: http://ccetompkins.org/events/2022/03/01/home-fru...

The Saturday workshop will be at a facility in Trumansburg.  Exact address will be sent to you after registration.

Because of COVID protocols, class size will be strictly limited to 20 students. We are committed to making all the Zoom classes in our Horticulture Program financially accessible, so have moved to a pay-what-you-can model.  Because of limited physical space in our in-person classes, we cannot offer unlimited free spaces, but we do have a few scholarship spots available. Simply reach out to us at the contact info below to claim one of those spots.

Class size is limited to 20 participants. There is a sliding scale fee of $15-$40, for this class. Due to class size we are only able to offer only 2 scholarships.

Our goal is to help our areas gardeners have access to this knowledge, free from financial barriers. We have two scholarship spots in this class. If you would like a scholarship spot, please reach out to Maria Christian at mjc72@cornell.edu
