Sure you can grow carrots and peas, but can you grow something to put them in? YES! Hardshell gourds are fun and satisfying to grow and turn into all kinds of useful objects. Participants in this workshop will learn all about growing gourds, from where to get seed and how to germinate, to trellising and pollinating, and harvesting and drying. A smattering of crafting and gourd culture and history will be thrown in too, just for fun. Graham and Otto Ottoson have been growing gourds for 15 years. They are active members of the American Gourd Society and have a business on Ithaca's west hill called Gourdlandia, where Otto weeds and waters, and Graham makes lamps, night lights, and a whole lot more!
