Energy Smart Community (ESC) was created by NYSEG in order to develop and test the technologies, markets, and choices that will help advance clean energy use in Tompkins County. This initiative aligns with Tompkins County's Energy Roadmap and with New York’s Reforming the Energy Vision comprehensive energy strategy which mandates that, by 2030, 50 percent of New York’s energy be generated by renewable sources. It includes installing smart meters.
Energy Manager, an online portal, gives people with smart meters access to their electricity and gas usage on a daily basis, plus customized energy saving tips. Coming soon will be a series of trainings on how to use Energy Manager.
The Tompkins County Energy Roadmap aims to reach a minimum 80 percent greenhouse gas reduction from 2008 levels by 2050, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels across all sectors. Tompkins County Planning Department explains more about the Roadmap in this presentation.
