Community Gardens

If you would like to start a garden this spring, but don't have available land, consider renting a plot in one of the following community gardens in Tompkins County.

CITY OF ITHACA

FLORAL AVENUE COMMUNITY GARDEN
Register:

Plot size: 10' x 10' or 15' x 15'
Garden location: Floral Avenue (Rt 13A), next to the inlet. 
Fees: $15 for 10' x 10';  $25 for 15' x 15'; water, compost, mulch and tools available.


PROJECT GROWING HOPE ITHACA COMMUNITY GARDEN

Register:
To join Project Growing Hope and apply for a garden plot, please fill out this simple online form, or send your name, address, and phone number to Project Growing Hope, PO Box 606, Ithaca, NY 14851. You will be placed on the New Gardener waiting list and we will send you a registration form if plots are available. New Gardeners are limited to one plot at registration.
Plot size: 15' x 15', up to 280 square feet
Garden location: Rt. 13 at Third Street, in Carpenter Park - DOWNTOWN
Fees: Membership and plot fee is $40 per year ($15 member fee and $25 plot use fee for water, tools, manure, etc.). Scholarships are available for those unable to afford the full fee.
Work requirement: 4 hour minimum work commitment per year (or pay $15 per hour not worked) to help maintain the Gardens, and gardeners are also expected to participate.

TOWN OF ITHACA

COMMUNITY GARDEN AT LINDERMANN CREEK APARTMENTS - WEST HILL
Register:
Call Town of Ithaca Clerk at 273-1721 for an application or go to the office at 215 N. Tioga St. to sign up.
Plot size: 10' x 10' or 20' x 20'
Garden location: Rt 79, West Hill, turn into Linderman Creek apartment complex and drive north and west up the hill at the back of the apartment complex
Fees: $15 for 10'x10'; $25 for 20'x20'; water, compost, mulch and tools are available
Other info: No dogs allowed in garden

CORNELL COMMUNITY GARDEN EAST HILL

Garden location: Freese Rd. between Hanshaw and Dryden, near the Cornell Dyce Honey Bee Lab
Fees: $25 per plot; compost and water are included

FALLEN TREE COMMUNITY GARDEN

Plot size: 12' x 12'  Water, deer fence, and tools and even seeds and starts available.

Garden location: 128 Muriel Street - Small neighborhood garden has plots for people living within walking distance

Fees: There is no cost but people listing agree to the following conditions: 1) This is an organic garden so we ask that no chemicals or roundup be used. 2) If you re going away, you allow your fellow gardeners to babysit it and harvest the goods. 3) You share any excess in the community. 4) You agree to three hours a month work on the Fallen tree Center pollinator gardens. 5) All children must be supervised.

SONGBIRD COMMUNITY GARDEN
Register: Choose the size of your garden plot in our fenced, organic site. Open to gardeners as early as April 1. Contact Marissa Richards for more information or to reserve a plot: 607-273-7347.

Plot size: From 250 square feet to 1,000 square feet
Garden location: Located on Rt 327 near the intersection with Rt 13 south, bordering Robert Treman State Park. The gardens are tucked in the woods away from the road, but easy to access from Ithaca.
Additional amenities: Water, sheds, mulch and compost, some tools. Youth and adult education available on-site. Some garden supplies available for purchase.
Fees: Increments of 250 square feet for $62.50.  20% discount on group or large plots of 1,000 sq. ft. or more.

TOWN OF DRYDEN

DRYDEN COMMUNITY GARDEN Near the DRYDEN TOWN HALL
Register:
For an application contact Christine Nash at 607-793-6392 (cell phone) or PO Box 197, Dryden NY 13053.  You also may find an application at the Dryden CafĂ© at the Corner of Routes 13 (Main St.) and 38.
Plot size: 10' x 10', gardeners may reserve multiple plots
Garden location: behind the Town of Dryden Town Hall, 93 E. Main St. Dryden. Park in the Town lot, walk into the field to west from the old barn
Fees: $10 per plot annually

DRYDEN COMMUNITY GARDEN - COMMON FIELD INC.
Common Field Inc. is planning to develop a new community garden site in Dryden in 2014, near NYSEG on Route 13. Call Chris Muka at 607-533-3553 for more information.

TOWN OF LANSING

ALL SAINTS CHURCH COMMUNITY GARDEN
Register:

Plot size:
Shared garden space, no individual plots, fenced, raised beds and open ground.
Garden location:
All Saints Church, 347 Ridge Rd., Lansing
Fees:
No fees, come work and in exchange get produce to take home.

EAST SHORE COMMUNITY GARDEN - GARDENS OF GRACE

Plot size:
Individual plots are 10' X 15', and there is a community section where sweet corn, summer and fall squash, cucumbers, flowers and herbs are grown. There is water available and the garden is fenced. Double plots are available as well.
Garden location: East Shore Christian Fellowship, 2049 East Shore Drive (Rt.34) behind the church
Fees:
No fees, but a $20 deposit that is returned at the end of the garden season provided rules are followed.

LANSING COMMUNITY GARDEN - COMMON FIELD INC.
