Family Supports

CCE-Tompkins hosts or partners with other agencies and community groups to present programs that help familes and those who work with families.  In addition to the following resources, our Family Resource Directory was compiled  to help families find answers to the day-to-day questions and challenges, at local, state and national levels.

Coalition for Families

Join with parents, volunteers and agency staff members to strengthen our community for all children, youth and families!  Coalition for Families focuses on creating family-centered services, enhancing collaboration between agencies, and exploring policy issues.  Monthly dialogues focus on current research and best practices with guests from local organizations and colleges.  All are welcome!  Meetings are held every 3rd Thursday, 8:15 am - 9:30 am at the CCE-Tompkins Education Center.  For more information, contact Nancy Potter at (607) 272-2292, ext. 127 or email np20@cornell.edu.

Parent Education Network

Discussions led by parent educators provide parenting information and encourage parents to share experiences and ideas for nurturing children.  Topics vary throughout the year.  For information on topics, see our Upcoming Events or call Anna Steinkraus at (607) 272-2292, ext. 145.

Parent Partner ProgramTM

Formerly coordinated by CCE-Tompkins, the Parent Partner Program is now administered by the Mental Health Association in Tompkins County.  The workshop consists of two 3-hour sessions that focus on family education and support for parents, family and loved ones of those with eating disorders.  Local presenters from the fields of mental health, medicine and nutrition help participants understand the illness and provide positive support.  There is a registration fee per family; however, reduced rates are available.  For more information, download the Parent Partner Program brochure, or to register, contact the Mental Health Association in Tompkins County at 607-273-9250 or info@mhaedu.org. Visit our Calendar of Events for the next workshop, or call the Mental Health Association for more information.

The Parent Partner Program also offers a  monthly, live interactive videoconference with Eating Disorder Support Groups in Rochester, Watertown and Binghamton led by Dr Richard Kreipe, on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 6:30-8:30pm at CCE-Tompkins Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca.
