ALL Programs are FREE & Open to All Groton Middle School Age Youth.  New this year, most programs will go past 4:00pm.  If your child cannot stay past 4pm, they can be dismissed at 4pm in order to take the late run bus home on a Tuesday or Thursday program day.   SNACKS & DRINKS PROVIDED

These programs are supported by Tompkins County, New York State and your local municipality, the Town and Village of Groton.  (Questions call 898-4569)

GEOCHACHING  -  CHECK OUT THIS HI-TECH SCAVENGER HUNT ADVENTURE.  "GEOCACHING" HAS BECOME A POPULAR ACTIVITY WORLD WIDE!  "Geochaching" the "geo-" refers to Geography. And a "cache" is a hiding place for storing provisions or items. You'll learn how to use a GPS to help you find hidden treasures. In this program you will learn about and explore the natural features of different places in search of hidden caches.  We will visit a popular geocaching web site to get directions and get clues to hidden treasures right here in Groton and at other locations in the surrounding communities.  Meet after school at the Youth Services office in the 6th grade hall.  Program starts and ends at the middle school.  Arrange for transportation home at 5:30pm.  Mondays, first meeting  Sept. 19th , Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 17, 24, 31 ; 2:50-5:30pm

HELPING HANDS - A program that was started 8 years ago by middle school students!  Meet once a week for different activities. You get to decide how to help others.  Make a difference in your town by donating your time and talents. Students have helped at the Halloween Party, raised money for the Groton Food Pantry, run the kiddy games at Winter Fest, helped take care of the compost.  This fall we'll harvest some of the vegetables from the school garden, plant garlic for next year & plan for the kid's Halloween party.  FIND OUT WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT ON THURSDAYS!  We meet every Thursday while school is in session. If you can't participate right now because of other activities you are involved in, come when you can.  Your time and talents can make a difference in your town.  THURSDAYS throughout  the school year while school is in session, 2:50-5:00, ROOM 106.  FIRST MEETING THURSDAY September 22ND.

GOT GOODS? -  CANNED GOODS THAT IS!  Learn about canning different foods in jars. In this program you'll learn how make things like pickles, pizza sauce, salsa and put them in jars for safe keeping.  Canning is a rich part of American culture that many families across the United States commonly practiced in order to have fruits and vegetables over the long winters.  Learn some canning history as we explore different recipes and canning methods!  Tuesdays October 4, 11, 18, & 25th ~ 2:50-5:00, rm. 306.

Lunch Bunch - Is middle school life a little over whelming at times? Want try something different during your lunch period?  Hang-out with the Youth Service program manager and try a new food, go on a hike, learn how to use the internet to help you on a school project, do a craft project, or just relax for some down time before you have to race off to class!
