Dryden & Freeville

Programs are offered year-round by Dave Hall for Dryden & Freeville area middle school aged youth.

Program Offerings:

Programming follows NYS and CDC safety guidelines. 

Fall 2021 (October & November) Programs

Programs are for Middle and High School Aged Youth in the Town of Dryden. All programs will meet at the 'Lion' in the Dryden Middle School lobby after dismissal at 2:20. Programs will run until 5:30 for those participants who are not taking the late bus and will be getting picked up by a parent or guardian. Programs will be outside. Please be sure that your child dresses properly to be outside for the afternoon. Some programs will involve field trips in which we will travel in a Cornell Cooperative Extension van. Masks are required while traveling in a CCE van. Programs will not meet if school is on holiday or cancelled.

Monday Makers

Mondays October 4 - November 8. Monday Makers is a participant inspired program where the 'sky is the limit' (within reason). Possibilities include field trips, cooking, games and local adventures. Come join and share your ideas!

Hiking 101

Tuesdays October 5 - October 26 - Come explore some of Dryden's wilder places in this field trip based program.

Community Helpers 

Wednesdays October 6 - October 27 - Come and get involved with some fun and fulfilling projects as we remove invasive species, clear trail and improve the pavilion.

Primitive Pursuits

Thursdays October 7 - November 18 - Come learn ancestral survival skills such as shelter building, matchless fire making, water procurement and more!

Games and Challenges

Fridays October 8 - October 29 - Participants can look forward to frisbee games, hiding games, and fun challenges. Participants will be encouraged to share their favorite games.

Nature Crafts

Mondays November 15 - 29 - Come and learn to make a coal burned spoon, your own rope, wooden bowl and more!

Wildlife Watchers

Tuesdays November 2 - November 30 - Come learn about the ancient art of tracking, observation, invisibility and questioning. You'll never experience the great outdoors in the same way! We will travel to several local hotspots to bird and and search for wildlife.

Outdoor Cooking

Wednesdays November 3 - November 17 - Learn to cook over an open fire and utilize a Dutch Oven as we make pizzas, dessert and 'who knows'!

Get Lost

Fridays November 5 - November 19 - Learn to navigate without modern devices, lost proof yourself and know what to do to keep yourself safe in the backcountry.
