Tina Snyder is a community nutrition educator with CCE Tompkins County’s Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program. Tina earned an AS in Sciences at SUNY Empire State College in 2018 with a concentration in public health. Beginning in 1988, Tina has been working directly with families and youth who are food insecure to help them better feed their families and increase physical activity with the overall goal of improving their long term health.

In October 2000, Tina became credentialed in Family Development which directly impacted her delivery approach from a rescuing/fixing/lecturing to more family focused and strength based. By empowering families, positive health outcomes were obvious from visually seeing the changes to the participants reporting and commenting on their successes. In addition to nutrition program delivery, Tina has had the opportunity to be part of curriculum development and the pilot phases of several different health related topics, including prevention of type 2 diabetes, healthy cooking for kids, breastfeeding, and the parent/child feeding relationship.

In 2003, Tina became a Certified Lactation Counselor and collaborated with WIC on the Super Club project which expecting parents attended 6 sessions. They enjoyed a meal, learned tips for successful breastfeeding, and then made the recipe each week to take home to put in the freezer to bring out the week babies were born to help them have a hot meal ready to go.

Personally, Tina has been food insecure, received W.I.C, raised a child who has type 1 diabetes, has had borderline high blood pressure, and battled being overweight. Through her personal and professional experiences spanning 36 years, she has gained a deep respect for the families and their continuing challenges while living in poverty and the disparities they face navigating our broken health care system and lack of access to healthy affordable food.
