Leigh Miller studied Environment & Sustainability at Cornell University, with a focus on Collaborative Climate Solutions. Leigh learned about the Cornell Cooperative Extension system by collaborating with Cornell University Cooperative Extension – New York City in a capstone class focused on the development of the CCE Climate Stewards volunteer curriculum. A subsequent internship at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tioga County on a project titled “Understanding Opportunities and Barriers to Colocation of Solar and Agricultural Land Use in Tioga County” cemented Leigh’s interest in Cornell Cooperative Extension’s practice of providing accessible education to community members on a variety of practical topics. Given past experience as an intern and later board member for HeatSmart Tompkins, working as a Community Energy Educator at CCE Tompkins allows Leigh to blend her interest in community education with her experience supporting the local clean energy transition.
At CCE Tompkins, Leigh is a Community Energy Advisor as part of Smart Energy Choices, the Southern Tier Regional Clean Energy Hub. She helps Tompkins County residents learn about programs and incentives available to save energy and money in their homes and buildings. She also provides administrative support to the Southern Tier Hub team, which includes Community Energy Advisors at CCE Chemung, CCE Delaware, CCE Schuyler, CCE Broome, and CCE Tioga.
