Transportation Equity Coalition
Who is the Transportation Coalition?
The Transportation Equity Coalition is currently made up of representatives from TCAT, Gadabout, the Center for Community Transportation (including Carshare and Bike Walk Tompkins), Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County’s Way2Go program, GO ITHACA, Tompkins County Department of Social Services, and the Ithaca-Tompkins County Transportation Council (ITCTC). Current members are listed in the sidebar.
Vision
We envision an equitable transportation sector that advances the quality of life for historically excluded people in Tompkins County and surrounding areas.
Mission
The Transportation Equity Coalition will identify, advocate, and promote equitable policies and practices through inclusive cross-sector partnerships while addressing the systemic inequities that affect access to safe and efficient transportation.

Transportation Equity Needs Assessment
Since early 2022, the coalition has been focused on rolling out a Transportation Equity Needs Assessment together with consultants, and a planning group comprised of diverse members of the community. Focus groups were conducted in September 2022 and a community survey is underway to be shared with the community in the coming weeks. Learn more

Historically Excluded
Groups who have been denied access and/orsuffered past institutional discrimination in the United States. These groups may include but
are not limited to: BIPOC individuals, Ethnic minorities, Differing
economic backgrounds, Individuals with disabilities, individuals using
English as another language, LGBTQIA+ individuals, Religious groups,
Mature learners, Veterans, Seniors.
Equity & Equality
Equity involves trying to understand and give people what they need to enjoy full, healthy
lives. Equality aims to ensure that everyone gets the same things in order to enjoy full, healthy lives.
Like equity, equality aims to promote fairness and justice, but it can only work if everyone startsfrom the same place and needs the same things.
Equitable Transportation
Equitable transportation solutions are those thatare inclusive and consider all people as owners,planners,
and decision-makers. They acknowledge and account for past and current
inequities, and provide everyone with the infrastructure needed to
succeed and thrive.
