Application deadline for 2022 Master Composter training

  • Friday, March 4, 2022, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Help promote responsible composting in Tompkins County as a Master Composter volunteer!

This free training program includes seven 2.5-hour classes (17.5 hours) and one 4-hour, weekend field trip. In between weekly classes, trainees spend an additional ~2 hours/week volunteering and working on class projects. After training, Master Composters give back to the community through a variety of outreach activities.

The 2022 Master Composter volunteer training will be held every Wednesday evening, 6:00 to 8:30pm, from March 16 to May 4, 2022. To accommodate Cornell Spring break, class will not be held on Wednesday, April 6. Most of the training classes will be conducted virtually over Zoom. However, 2 or 3 of the classes towards the end of training will be held outdoors and in-person.

In addition to the weekly classes, a weekend field trip will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 1:00 - 5:00pm. Specifics about the volunteer work in between classes (called the "practical internship") can be found in the volunteer Job Description and will be discussed during applicant interviews.

More information, including the volunteer Job Description and application, is available at our Become a Master Composter webpage:
