Successful Agroforestry Tour and Work Day

  • Thursday, June 26, 2025, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Interested in land stewardship that centers tree and forest health alongside farming? Join us for a tour and discussion of the farm systems Wellspring Forest Farm has been developing and learning from for the past 13 years on 20 acres. They will share successes and failures, and engage folks in discussion and we'll do a little hands on work if time allows. Tour includes willow trials to support healthy water, soil, and provide fodder for our sheep; Ongoing silvopasture management for sheep grazing; Forest Farming of maple syrup and mushrooms; Tree nursery research we are doing to cultivate and amplify mycorrhizal fungi.

Instructor's bio: Steve Gabriel is an ecologist, farmer, and educator from the Finger Lakes Region (New York) located on the traditional lands of the Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫʼ (Cayuga Nation). Throughout his career spanning 20 years, Steve has taught thousands of farmers and land stewards about land planning, mushroom growing, and agroforestry. With his family, Steve co-stewards Wellspring Forest Farm, which produces mushrooms, pastured lamb maple syrup, elderberry, and an assortment of other homescale products. He passionately pursues work to reconnect people to the forested landscape and see the value of trees, forests, and fungi as an essential part of a regenerative future.
