Our Healthy Food For All (HFFA) program and an associated partnership of local farms has for over a decade provided weekly subsidized Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares of fruits and vegetables to people with limited incomes. In 2020, HFFA expects to provide shares for 250 households (including 75 people with diabetes or cardiovascular disease who have been prescribed produce through our FoodRx partnership with local healthcare providers). More than 1,000 people with food insecurity in our community will be directly assisted through these efforts.
With special project support from local foundations and donors, the HFFA has been able to meet the immediate needs for fresh local produce that emerged as the upstate economy ground to a halt in mid-March and local food banks scrambled to decentralize operations. HFFA farms have provided over 500 boxes of produce to food-insecure households in our community, as well as 200 boxes with produce and eggs, dry beans, grains and dairy (all locally produced!) for vulnerable, homebound elders and families to ensure they have the micro & macro nutrients they need to get by during this pandemic.
HFFA currently is raising funds to continue providing produce and pantry boxes in May, for rural residents who face challenges accessing fresh food due to their limited financial and transportation resources. Donations may be made at: https://www.healthyfoodforall.org/donate/
