EV Case Study - Tompkins County DOH

In 2017, Tompkins County Health Department was in the process of phasing out their aging fleet vehicles. It presented an opportunity for the Department to implement key principles and actions outlined in the Tompkins County Comprehensive Plan: Planning for Our Future 2015 to curb greenhouse gas emissions while continuing to provide high quality health services to county residents. Transportation in the county accounts for 35% of total emissions. With the county legislature’s support, Public Health Director Frank Kruppa, led the Department through a fleet greening process. The Department is gradually phasing out their gasoline vehicles with electric vehicles (EVs).
