Conley Permaculture Park

In spring of 2013, design sessions were held with the community to transform Ithaca's Conley Park (on Alice Miller Way behind the Sciencenter on Cascadilla Creek) into an edible landscape permaculture park.  Participants looked at the current planting areas in the park, discussed the needs and uses by neighboring families and organizations, and developed a general plan for locations of new plantings that would include lesser-known edible trees, shrubs and perennials that can be grown in downtown Ithaca. Planting and volunteer work sessions began in May and June of 2013 and the park was formally dedicated by Mayor Svante Myrick in June 2014.  Work continued during the growing seasons of 2014 and 2015 by which time, plants in the park were bearing edible fruit including strawberries, Juneberries, raspberries, currants, gooseberries, apples and plums.

More to come...
