Shade-tolerant understory plants

Understory Garden

The Understory Garden is an area of deep shade under two hardy pecan trees and a shadbush. Plants that do well in the dry shade and require little maintenance grow there, including several Hostas, both European and American ginger, Epimedium, an elderberry, and native woodland aster. The sunnier edges have strawberry plants.

In 2024, the Understory Garden is also serving as a temporary shade plant "nursery bed" to help support the Community Beautification program.
