Early this week, we learned about a situation involving a temporary staff member who has now been terminated. The nature of this situation included a potential threat to the health and safety of more than those who were directly involved.
Camp staff immediately took steps to ensure the protection of those in our care, communicating with the leadership of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County, local 4-H programs, and Primitive Pursuits. We are working with local authorities, and out of caution and in order to ensure the safety of program participants as well as staff and volunteers, we made the decision to cancel the final week of summer camp and temporarily close our offices to the public. Activities affected by this closing will be rescheduled, with details announced soon.
We understand this has caused inconvenience — this decision was not made lightly. We are unable to share more specific details as we continue to work with law enforcement to ensure the safety of participants and staff. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
